4ClimateFuture – Direct-Air-Capture and Storage onshore Germany
Coordinator of the project: Dr. Susanne Kuchling
The widespread avoidance of CO2 is crucial to the success of a CO2-emission-free industry. The production of CO2-intensive materials such as cement and steel, on the other hand, is essential for a climate-friendly energy supply through wind turbines and geothermal energy. Moreover, removing CO2 from the atmosphere is another fundamental step in the fight against climate change.
This project wants to create an opportunity with a technical onshore pilot (direct-Air-Capture with CCS) in Germany. The method (direct-air-capture) is proven and there has been no application in Germany so far. This project aims to enable the sustainable capture of CO2 from ambient air and sees the need for an onshore project with short transportation from unavoidable CO2 emissions to CO2 storage site, involving profound subsurface expertise from industry, in particular drilling, reservoir management, operations geology to ensure highest possible HSE standards in this project.
Beneficiaries are therefore industry and society in equal measure. KIPs result from the quantities of CO2 stored.
With the support of the W4RES initiative, the project is exploring possible funding opportunities and is developing an appropriate project concept. Through W4RES, 4ClimateFuture will be getting funding support to find relevant Calls under Horizon Europe and at the national level.
